Minto 81’s first victims of Lucknow this season

LUCKNOW – The Minto 81’s gave up the first three goals of the game and never recovered as they were handed a 5-3 setback by the Lucknow Lancers in Ontario Elite Hockey League play Sunday at the Lucknow and District Sports Complex.

The win was the first of the season for the Lancers.

Lucknow scored the lone goal of the first period and led 4-1 after the second. Minto closed the gap to a single goal with a power-play marker with 4:32, their second goal of the period, but the Lancers scored a last-minute goal to complete the scoring.

Jake Belvedere, Jordan Delaurier and Kyle Heintzner had a goal apiece for the 81’s while Brenden Clayton, Shawn Lantz, Riley Cribbin and Robert Grant each had one assist.

Trent Michie and Mike Johnstone scored twice apiece for Lucknow while Tanner Simpson scored the other goal. Greg Scott picked up two assists while Darby Tyndall, Mitch Kuik, Caden Beattie, Brett Binning and Josh Gottfried each had an assist.

Shots on goal were not recorded. Daniel Dekoening was in net for Minto while Odin Hessel was in goal for Lucknow.

The 81’s went 1-for-6 on their power play while the Lancers didn’t have a man advantage situation in the game.

The result leaves Minto sixth in the 11-team league at 4-3-0-1 while Lucknow is 10th at 1-5-0-1.

The game was the second of five consecutive road games for the 81’s. They’re to play the eighth-place Georgian Bay Applekings (3-4-0-0) at the Beaver Valley Community Centre and Arena in Thornbury. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
