Minto 81’s hit road for first time, get win in Durham

DURHAM – It’s road sweet road for the Minto 81’s as they won their first Ontario Elite Hockey League road game of the season 5-2 over the Durham Thundercats Saturday at the Durham Community Centre and Arena.

The win followed two losses that put an end to Minto’s season-opening six-game homestand.

The 81’s led 2-1 at the end of the first period and 4-2 after the second.

Riley Cribbin struck for a pair of goals for Minto while single goals were added by Cole Pellett, Kyle Heintzner and Jordan Delaurier. Blair Butchart and Caleb Warren each had two assists while Shawn Lantz, Heintzner, Delaurier and Cribbin had one apiece.

Trevor Hughson and Luke Richardson scored the goals for Durham while Connor Prins, Richardson, Kyle Nixon and Justin Graham each had one assist.

Durham outshot Minto 38-36 and went 1-for-3 on their power play while the 81’s were 2-for-4.

Mark Williams had 36 saves for Minto while Brendon Landry had 31 for Durham.

The Thundercats are fourth in the league at 5-2-0-1 and the 81’s are fifth at 4-2-0-1.

Minto is to play the 11th-place Lucknow Lancers (0-6-0-1) Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Lucknow and District Sports Complex.
