Minto 81’s score two in second to slip by Winterhawks

PORT ELGIN – The Minto 81’s netted a pair of goals in the second period and that gave them a 2-1 victory over the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks in Ontario Elite Hockey League play Friday night at the Port Elgin arena.

The Winterhawks scored the lone goal of the first period while the third was scoreless.

Cole Pellett and Brenden Clayton scored for Minto while Greg Huszarik and Owen Torrie each had an assist.

Matt Shields scored for Saugeen Shores while Mike Fiegehen and Logan Freiburger drew assists on the goal.

The 81’s were outshot 42-28 while neither team scored on its lone power play of the game.

Mark Williams had 41 saves for Minto while Jeff Flagler had 26 for Saugeen Shores.

The 81’s are tied for fourth in the 11-team league with the Creemore Coyotes. Minto is at 6-3-0-1 while Creemore has a game in hand at 6-2-0-1. Saugeen Shores is third at 7-4-0-0.

The 81’s are to play their fifth consecutive road game Sunday when they’re to take on the Seaforth Centenaires () at the Seaforth and District Community Centre at 3:30 p.m.
