“After Friday, I thought the boys came to play a little more and we saw a lot of good things out there,” Elora coach Scott Cook said.

Brinley Wilson led the Mohawks with five goals and four assists while Keegan Detweiler scored four times. Brock Redwood added a pair of goals while single goals were netted by JJ Lavigne, Carter Coffey, Tobias Wilson, Connor Willmets and Curtis Dietrich. Both teams had three power-play goals, Welland’s coming on four power plays and Elora’s on six.

The result leaves the Mohawks at 2-1-0 and Welland at 0-4-0.

“It’s been good,” Cook said of Elora’s start of the season. “We had a large group of guys away with hockey so we’re finally able to get everyone together and now the season can start.

“Everyone’s back now. This is our squad, just a few injuries, but we’ll get over those.”

The game was the first of four home games in eight days, the next one being against close rivals Guelph Regals (3-1-0) Wednesday at 8 p.m.

“I think it’s gonna be a tough one,” Cook said. “I think the game is gonna be decided by one goal and it’ll be rough lacrosse.”

The Mohawks are also to host the Owen Sound North Stars (1-1-0) Thursday at 8 p.m. and Point Edward Pacers (0-3-0) Sunday at 4 p.m.
