Mohawks make it two wins in as many nights at home

Two home games in as many nights and two wins for the Elora Mohawks in Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League play.

The Mohawks scored eight goals in the second period to clout the Cambridge Highlanders 13-3 Sunday at the Jefferson Elora Community Centre.

Elora had dropped the London Blue Devils 17-8 there Saturday.

Sunday, the Mohawks stretched a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period into a 10-2 lead by the end of the second.

Owen Moore collected four goals for the Mohawks while Brinley Wilson had a hat trick and Keegan Detweiler scored twice. Single goals were added by Brock Redwood, Cole Hunsberger, Nate Renaud and Jack Webley. JJ Lavigne set up seven goals while Renaud and Wilson each had three assists. McDougall had two assists and Hunsberger had one.

Korbyn Haupert, Nicholas Thomas and Dylan Gillespie had a goal apiece for Cambridge while Drake Neal had two assists and Haupert, Carter Whissell, Thomas and Evan Wallace each had one.

The Mohawks outshot the Highlanders 52-36 and had eight power-play goals while Cambridge had a power-play goal and a shorthanded tally.

Sam Forbes had 33 saves for the Mohawks and Joshua Swift had 39 for the Highlanders.

While the game was the second one of the regular season for the Mohawks, it was the first for Cambridge.

The Mohawks (2-0-0) are to play the St. Catharines Athletics (1-0-0) in St. Catharines Wednesday at 8 p.m.
