Mohawks start in a hurry in win over Regals

The Elora Mohawks used another fast start to leave the Guelph Regals behind in Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League play Sunday at the Jefferson Elora Community Centre.

The Mohawks scored six times in the first nine minutes of the game on their way to a 12-3 victory. The hosts led 7-2 at the end of the first period and 10-3 after the second.

Owen Moore led Elora with three goals and two assists while JJ Lavigne, Keegan Detweiler and Brinley Wilson each had two goals and three assists. Connor Willmets had two goals and one assist while Peyton Drone had the other goal and two assists. Evan McDougall had two assists while Owen Tovell and Cole Hunsberger each had one assist.

Sam Savery, Ben Morton and Darcy Rybinski had a goal apiece for the Regals while single assists went to Dylan Davey, Tyler Beecraft and Savery.

The Mohawks outshot the Regals 47-28 and scored five power-play goals while the Regals had one.

Sam Forbes had 25 saves for Elora while Connor Waller had 11 saves in the first period for Guelph and Anthony Fonte had 24 in the final two periods.

The Regals were called for 14 minutes in penalties while Elora was called for 11.

The result leaves the Mohawks at 5-0-1 in league play and the Regals at 2-3-0.

The Mohawks are to host three games this week as they’re to play the Owen Sound North Stars Thursday at 8 p.m., Wallaceburg Red Devils Saturday at 4 p.m. and Hamilton Bengals Sunday at 7 p.m.

The Regals are to play the Six Nations Rebels at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena Friday at 8 p.m. and host the Windsor Clippers Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Victoria Road arena.
