Mount Forest Patriots again topped by Hanover

HANOVER – The Mount Forest Patriots suffered their third consecutive loss and second in a row to the Hanover Barons as they were handed a 5-2 setback at Hanover’s P and H Centre Friday in Provincial Junior Hockey League play.

Hanover led 2-0 at the end of the first period and 3-2 after the second.

Jared Rowe and Seth Huygen scored for the Patriots while assists were awarded to Jordan Leitch, Aidan Doig, Matt McLellan and Jack Micone. Huygen and Micone were both acquired by the Patriots in trades earlier in the month. Huygen came from the Komoka Kings of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League through the Mitchell Hawks who held his junior C rights and Micone came from the Alliston Hornets of the PJHL’s Carruthers Division.

Hanover received goals from Drayton Howell, Payton McIsaac, Wyatt Cayley, Ryan Colquhoun and Alex McGillivray while Kyle Maloney assisted on two of the goals and Ryan Goetz, Aaron Dukeshire, Patrick Brown, McGillivray, Curtis Arnold, Cam Angst, Colquhoun and McIsaac each had one assist.

The Barons outshot the Patriots 41-25 including a 28-11 advantage in the first and third periods combined. Mount Forest went 1-for-4 on its power play while Hanover went 1-for-8.

Marshall Nicholls had 36 saves for the Patriots and Derek Hartley had 23 for the Barons.

Hanover leads the Pollock Division at 26-4-0-2 while Mount Forest is second at 23-6-2-0. They’re followed by the Kincardine Bulldogs at 18-10-1-5, Walkerton Capitals at 14-13-2-2, Fergus Whalers at 13-12-3-2, Wingham Ironmen at 13-15-2-1, Mitchell at 9-19-2-2 and Goderich Flyers at 2-26-1-2.

The Patriots are to host Fergus Saturday at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex. Game time is 8 p.m.
