Mount Forest Patriots blank Mitchell in Game 2

MITCHELL – Marshall Nicholls stopped all shots fired his way to pick up the shutout as the Mount Forest Patriots blanked the Mitchell Hawks 2-0 Sunday in the second game of their best-of-seven Provincial Junior Hockey League playoff series.

The Patriots won the Pollock Division quarter-final opener 9-1 Saturday at Mount Forest.

Nicholls stopped 29 shots for Sunday’s shutout.

The Patriots netted a power-play goal in the second period and an empty-netter with 1:24 to go in the third.

Aidan Doig and Brody Leblanc scored the goals while Matt McLellan and Jaxon Gawel each had an assist.

The Patriots outshot the Hawks 41-29 and both teams had three power plays.

Joshua Jacklin had 39 saves for Mitchell.

Third game of the series, a rescheduled game to replace the originally scheduled opening game that was postponed due to poor travelling conditions, is to go Tuesday at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex starting at 8:45 p.m. while the fourth game is set for Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Mitchell.
