Mount Forest Patriots dropped in preseason tourney final

ALLISTON – The Mount Forest Patriots dropped their final Provincial Junior Hockey League preseason match Sunday when they were defeated 5-1 by the Alliston Hornets at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre.

The game was the final of the Hornets’ preseason tournament.

Alliston scored the lone goal of the first period before the hosts added three goals in the second.

Brantly Kuipers had the lone goal for Mount Forest with 3:27 to go in the third period. Aaron McGuirk assisted on the power-play goal.

Alliston received goals from Tristan Pitt, Tayden Hannivan, Jack Micone, Nolan Drury and Mark Coish. Assists went to Clayson Goymour, Cole Turcotte, Payton Palbiski, Hannivan and Aiden Landers.

Shots on net were not recorded. The Patriots were 1-for-5 on the power play while the Hornets were scoreless on two power plays.

Nolan Brown was in net for Mount Forest while Rod Lewis was in goal for Alliston.

The game was the final preseason match for the Patriots who had three wins and two losses.

The Patriots are to start their regular season Saturday with a home game against the expansion Fergus Whalers at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex. Game time is 8 p.m.
