Mount Forest Patriots edged by Goderich Flyers

GODERICH – The Mount Forest Patriots yielded a pair of goals in the second period as they were edged 4-3 by the Goderich Flyers in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Saturday at the Goderich Maitland Recreation Centre.

Goderich never trailed in the match, although the teams were tied 1-1 at the end of the first period. The Flyers were ahead 3-1 after the second.

Austin Griffin, Brody Leblanc and Matt McLellan scored the goals for the Patriots while Leblanc had two assists and Will Lewis also had an assist.

Goderich received goals from Trent Carter, Reid Williams, Owen Shore and Leland Weber. Cohen Lesouder had two assists and Weber, Brett Reesor and Carter each had one.

The Patriots outshot the Flyers 33-29 and neither team scored a power-play goal, Mount Forest on eight power plays and Goderich on seven. The Patriots scored a shorthanded goal.

Nolan Brown had 25 saves in the Mount Forest net and Christian DeJong had 30 for Goderich.

The loss leaves the Patriots at 6-4-1-0 while the win leaves the Flyers at 2-8-0-0.

The Patriots are to play the Kincardine Bulldogs (7-2-1-1) at Kincardine’s Davidson Centre Friday at 8:30 p.m.
