Nicholls gets shutout as Patriots blank Walkerton

MOUNT FOREST – Marshall Nicholls collected his third win in as many outings and he recorded his first shutout of the season as he helped the Mount Forest Patriots shut out the Walkerton Capitals in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Saturday at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.

The Patriots scored all six of their goals in the second period including three in the first 5:44 of the period.

Brody Leblanc had two goals and two assists for the Patriots while single goals were recorded by Will Lewis, Matt McLellan, Jared Rowe and Jaxon Gawel. Aidan Doig and Aaron McGuirk had two assists apiece while Austin Griffin and McLellan each had one.

The Patriots outshot the Capitals 28-18 and went 2-for-5 on the power play while Walkerton was scoreless on six power plays.

Vance Meyer, who played for the Patriots last season, had 21 saves for Walkerton before giving way to Noah Lundgren who had one save on two shots in the final 21:50 of the game.

The result leaves Mount Forest at 9-4-1-0 and Walkerton at 8-5-1-0.

The Patriots are to play the Mitchell Hawks (5-7-2-0) at the Mitchell Arena Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
