OHL teams pick seven from Junior Gryphons U16 AAAs

Seven members of the Guelph Junior Gryphons U16 AAA squad were selected in the Ontario Hockey League’s annual priority selection draft Friday and Saturday, including two by the Guelph Storm.

The Junior Gryphons had two players picked in the fourth round, two in the seventh and one each in the 12th, 13th and 15th rounds.

Nolan Battler, a 5-foot-11 defenceman, was picked in the fourth round, 70th overall, by the Saginaw Spirit. He had 30 points (nine goals) in 42 regular season and playoff games.

Sarnia Sting selected 6-foot-1 left winger Ryder Simpson of Guelph and the Junior Gryphons in the fourth round, 81st overall. Simpson had 27 points (14 goals) in 41 regular season and playoff games.

Selected in the seventh round, 132nd overall, by the Erie Otters was 6-foot-3 centre Hudson Wozney of Waterdown and the Junior Gryphons. Wozney had 34 points (17 goals) in 38 regular season and playoff games.

The Storm picked 6-foot-1 centre Micah Della Croce of Guelph and the Junior Gryphons in the seventh round, 136th overall, and 5-foot-9 goaltender Ethan Madden of Puslinch and the Junior Gryphons in the 15th round, 291st overall. See story on Guelph Storm’s for their stats.

The Soo Greyhounds also selected a pair of Junior Gryphons, right winger Kayln McQueen of Puslinch in the 12th round (240th overall) and 6-foot-2.5 defenceman Alexander Kyriacou of Waterloo in the 13th round (260th overall). McQueen had 37 points (18 goals) and Kyriacou had nine points (two goals). Both played in 42 regular season and playoff games.
