Orangeville all alone in first in senior hoops, for now

GUELPH – The Orangeville Bears grabbed sole possession of top spot in the District 10 high school senior girls’ basketball league with a 60-47 win over the Bishop Macdonell Celtics in the league’s lone game Wednesday.

The Centennial Spartans will rejoin the Bears in a tie atop the standings if they defeat the Lourdes Crusaders Thursday.

Emma Firth led Orangeville with 28 points Wednesday while Ayla Corrigale added 20.

Sydney Richardson had 12 for Bishop Mac and Melody Bruce contributed nine.

Orangeville leads at 6-0 while Centennial is at 5-0. They’re followed by the Ross Royals and Guelph CVI Green Gaels both at 3-2, Bishop Mac at 3-3, Lourdes at 1-4 and St. James Lions and Centre Wellington Falcons both at 0-5.

Centennial and Orangeville are to meet for the first time in the regular season Tuesday at Orangeville at 3:30 p.m.

 

Junior Girls’ Basketball

Bishop Mac did the same as the Orangeville seniors by getting sole possession of first place with a win Wednesday.

Bishop Mac leads at 6-0 while GCVI’s at 5-0, Ross is at 4-1, St. James is at 3-2, Centre Wellington’s at 2-3, Lourdes is at 1-4, Centennial’s at 0-5 and Orangeville’s at 0-6.

GCVI is to play at Ross Thursday and will move back into a tie for top spot with a win.

 

Bishop Macdonell 60 Orangeville 25

Cassidy Myslik connected for 12 points for Bishop Mac while Maeve Bedard netted 11.

Walker had eight for Orangeville and Larocque collected seven.
