Orangeville senior girls pick up scoring pace to top GCVI

GUELPH – The Orangeville Bears rebounded from a slow start to register a 58-39 victory over the Guelph CVI Green Gaels in District 10 high school senior girls’ basketball play at GCVI Thursday.

While the Bears never trailed at the end of any quarter, they were limited to single digits in scoring in the opening quarter before getting double digits in each of the other three quarters.

Orangeville led 8-5 at the end of the opening quarter before extending its lead to 27-16 at half time and 43-27 after the third quarter.

Ayla Corrigale led the Bears with 24 points while Emma Firth netted 17 and Chloe Regimbal had six.

Molly Hannay hit for nine for GCVI while Phoebe James and Jasmine Liban each had eight.

Orangeville, Centennial Spartans and Ross Royals are each at 2-0 while the Lourdes Crusaders and GCVI are both at 1-1. Bishop Macdonell Celtics, Centre Wellington Falcons and St. James Lions are all at 0-2.

 

Ross 49 Bishop Macdonell 24

Samantha Tesfit topped the scoring list for Ross with 18 points while Sierra Curvan followed with 14.

Victoria Gamboa had eight for Bishop Mac and Hayley Clark gathered seven.

 

Lourdes 41 St. James 16

Kayla Schaus had 10 points for Lourdes.

St. James received 11 from Arielle Balmelero.

 

Centennial 55 Centre Wellington 18

Hayley McMillan had a game-high 22 points for Centennial.

Thys and Abra each had eight for Centre Wellington.

 

 

Junior Girls’ Basketball

St. James 49 Lourdes 31

Gracin Jones led St. James with 11 points and was followed by Anzeyah Lewis with nine and Sadie Cummings with eight.

Jwokmeer Omot had a game-high 24 for Lourdes while Vivien Guti added five and Jeana Jinu had two.

Both teams are at 1-1.

 

Bishop Macdonell 40 Ross 33

Scoring leaders not reported.

Bishop Mac is at 2-0 and Ross is at 1-1.

 

Guelph CVI 48 Orangeville 38

Jenna Genidy and Gwen Rankin struck for 14 points apiece for GCVI.

Leading scorers for Orangeville were Bianca with 13 and Carlee Crang with 11.

GCVI is at 2-0 and Orangeville is at 0-2.

 

Centre Wellington 41 Centennial 14

Long and Sellers collected 12 points apiece for Centre Wellington.

Libby Anderson had five for Centennial.

Centre Wellington is at 1-1 and Centennial is at 0-2.
