Outlaws snap winless skid by topping Milverton

ERIN – The Erin Outlaws put an end to their four-game losing streak in Ontario Elite Hockey League play when they outlasted the Milverton Four Wheel Drives 7-5 at the Centre 2000 arena Sunday.

The Outlaws built their two-goal advantage in the first period when they outscored Milverton 3-1. Both teams scored twice in the second period and twice in the third.

Milverton did tie the score with a pair of power-play goals 48 seconds apart in the first two and a half minutes of the third, but the hosts restored their two-goal advantages with a pair of goals in the final two and a half minutes of the period.

Liam Galton scored two goals for Erin while single goals were netted by Sean Caruso, Jacob Miller, Jacob Coulson, Luke Miehm and Justin Pringle. Joey Warywoda and Coulson each had two assists while Hayden Ireland, Adrian Peric, Pierre-Luc Forget, Galton, Brad Humberstone and Brad Holman had one apiece.

Scoring for Milverton were Jeff Fritzley with two goals and Reid Swartzentruber, Mitch Boertien and Colton Quipp with one apiece. Boertien collected three assists while Quipp had two and Curtis Rawn and Dennis Dewar had one each.

The Outlaws outshot the Four Wheel Drives 68-37 and were scoreless on three power plays while Milverton went 2-for-4 on its power play.

Connor Toogood had 32 saves for Erin while Tim Bester had 61 for Milverton.

The result leaves the Outlaws at 3-4-0-0 and Milverton at 0-7-0-0.

The Outlaws are to play the Seaforth Centenaires (4-2-0-0) at the Seaforth and District Community Centre Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
