Patriots double Mitchell to begin 3-in-3 holiday weekend

MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots started their three-in-three Family Day holiday weekend with a 4-2 victory over the Mitchell Hawks Saturday at the Mount Forest and District Community Centre.

The win was the fourth in a row for the Patriots.

Two goals in the third period broke a tie and gave the Patriots a win in the game in which they never trailed. They led 2-1 at the end of the first period and Mitchell scored the lone goal of the second.

Jaxon Gawel, Jordan Leitch, Will Lewis and Jared Rowe had a goal apiece for the Patriots while Brody Leblanc had two assists and Charlie Mckenzie and Matt McLellan each had one.

Ethan Pearce and Cole Humphrey scored for Mitchell while assists went to Nolan Gagnier, Ethan Pearce and Connor Lockhart.

The Patriots outshot the Hawks 36-22 and both teams were 1-for-4 on their power plays.

Michael Purkhart had 20 saves for Mount Forest and Joshua Jacklin had 32 for Mitchell.
