Patriots doubled by Hanover in third game of division final

Hanover Barons shot ahead in the Provincial Junior Hockey League’s Pollock Division final as they doubled the Mount Forest Patriots 4-2 Sunday at Hanover’s P and H Centre.

The win gives Hanover a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Two goals in the third period for the Barons proved to be the difference in the game.

The Patriots never led in the game. After a scoreless first period, Hanover scored the first two goals of the second before Mount Forest tallied its two goals 45 seconds apart late in the second.

Matt McLellan and Jack Micone had a goal apiece for Mount Forest while single assists were awarded to Brody Leblanc, Aaron McGuirk and McLellan.

Hanover received goals from Eliott McCarey, Joey Stimac, Ryan Colquhoun and Alex McGillivray. Patrick Brown and Kyle Maloney each had two assists while Aaron Dukeshire, McGillivray, Payton McIsaac and Curtis Arnold each had one assist.

The Barons outshot the Patriots 34-33 and each period saw a one-shot difference between the teams.

Marshall Nicholls had 30 saves for Mount Forest while Derek Hartley had 31 for Hanover.

Game 4 is to go Wednesday at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.
