Patriots drop Goderich to get win streak to six games

GODERICH – The Mount Forest Patriots recorded their sixth consecutive win in Provincial Junior Hockey League play as they dropped the Goderich Flyers 5-1 Saturday at the Goderich Maitland Recreation Centre Saturday.

The teams were tied 1-1 at the end of the first period while the Patriots scored three goals in a span of 2:29 in the second period and added the final goal in the third period.

Brody Leblanc had two goals and an assist for Mount Forest while Jaxon Gawel, Connor Paige and Jared Rowe tallied once apiece. Matt McLellan and Aaron McGuirk each had two assists while single assists were awarded to Owen Tovell and Austin Griffin.

Leland Weber scored for Goderich with help from Mitchell Hodges.

Shots on net were reported as 19-15 for the Patriots with the only shot of the third period being Mount Forest’s goal.

The Patriots were 1-for-5 on their power play and Goderich was scoreless on six power plays.

Both goaltenders, Marshall Nichols of Mount Forest and Logan Bromley of Goderich, had 14 saves.

Last loss for Mount Forest was a 4-3 setback to the Flyers in Goderich Oct. 21, one of two wins registered by the Flyers this season.

The Patriots (12-4-1-0) are to play the Kincardine Bulldogs (10-3-1-4) at Kincardine’s Davidson Centre Friday at 8:30 p.m.
