Patriots have win streak snapped by Wingham

MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots saw their seven-game win streak in the Provincial Junior Hockey League with a 3-2 loss to the Wingham Ironmen Friday night at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.

The loss was the first of October for the Patriots.

Wingham scored twice in the first period and once in the second before the Patriots scored their two goals in the final three minutes of the game.

Brody Leblanc had a goal and an assist for the Patriots while Jordan Leitch also scored. Single assists went to Keegan Detweiler, Charlie Mckenzie and Jaxon Gawel.

Wingham’s goals were scored by Noah Wettlaufer, Austin Becker and Nigel Kreager while assists went to Darcy Scott, Owen Rahn and Wettlaufer.

The Patriots outshot the Ironmen 28-18 including a 21-8 advantage after the first period. Both teams scored a power-play goal, Mount Forest on six power plays and Wingham on three.

Michael Purkhart had 15 saves for the Patriots and Garrett Golley had 26 for Wingham.

Mount Forest falls to 6-3-1-0 with the loss while Wingham improves to 6-4-1-0.

The Patriots are to play the Goderich Flyers (1-8-0-0) Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Goderich Maitland Recreation Centre.
