Mount Forest Patriots outshot, but they top Kincardine

KINCARDINE – The Mount Forest Patriots were outshot in each period, but used the goaltending of Marshall Nicholls to clip the Kincardine Bulldogs 3-1 in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Saturday at Kincardine’s Davidson Centre.

Nicholls faced 43 shots in the match while his teammates took 29.

The Patriots scored the lone goal of the first period and added two more in the second while Kincardine’s goal came with 8:34 to go in the third.

Connor Paige had a pair of goals for Mount Forest while Brody Leblanc scored the other one, his league-best 44th of the season. Leblanc also leads the league with 89 points. Owen Tovell and Austin Griffin each had an assist.

Carter Servais tallied for Kincardine while assists went to Wilson Shipp and Liam Colhoun.

The Patriots went 1-for-5 on their power play and they held Kincardine scoreless on two power plays.

Rowen Cherrett had 26 saves for Kincardine.

The Hanover Barons lead the Pollock Division at 31-4-0-2 (W-L-OTL-T) while the Patriots are second at 26-7-2-0 and Kincardine is third at 20-11-2-5. They’re followed by the Walkerton Capitals at 17-15-2-2, Fergus Whalers at 15-14-3-2, Wingham Ironmen at 14-17-3-1, Mitchell Hawks at 10-22-3-2 and Goderich Flyers at 3-30-1-2.

The Patriots and Fergus Whalers are to tangle Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex in Fergus.
