Patriots top Kincardine for second win in two days

MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots made it two wins PJHL play in as many days as they skated to 5-2 victory over the Kincardine Bulldogs at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.

The Patriots scored at least one goal in each period to claim the win.

The hosts led 2-1 at the end of the first period and 3-1 after the second.

Matt McLellan connected for a pair of goals for Mount Forest while Will Lewis, Brody Leblanc and Aidan Doig each had a goal and an assist. Also getting assists were Jared Rowe, Cameron Lytle, Connor Paige, Matthew Weiler, Charlie Mckenzie and Jaxon Gawel.

Tyler Wagler and Liam Colhoun scored for Kincardine while Wilson Shipp and Trent Houghton each had an assist.

The Bulldogs outshot the Patriots 32-31, but were scoreless on four power plays while Mount Forest went 2-for-5 on its power play.

Michael Purkhart had 30 saves for the Patriots while Rowen Cherrett had 26 for Kincardine.

Hanover Barons lead the Pollock Division at 5-0-0-1 while the Walkerton Capitals are second at 5-1-0-0. They’re followed by the Fergus Whalers at 2-1-1-2, Wingham Ironmen at 3-3-0-0, Kincardine at 2-2-1-1, the Patriots at 2-2-1-0, Mitchell Hawks at 2-3-1-0 and Goderich Flyers at 0-5-0-0.

The Patriots have a pair of road games on the Thanksgiving weekend as they’re to play the Ironmen at Wingham Friday at 8 p.m. and the Hawks at Mitchell Saturday at 7:15 p.m.
