Quick goals lead to Rocks being edged by Delhi Flames

DELHI – The Elora Rocks yielded a pair of goals 28 seconds apart early in the third period as they were edged 5-4 by the Delhi Flames in Western Ontario Super Hockey League play Saturday at the Delhi Arena.

The Rocks led 3-1 with five minutes to go in the second period, but Delhi struck for four consecutive goals to grab a 5-3 lead less than four minutes into the third period.

Elora led 2-1 at the end of the first period and the teams were tied 3-3 at the end of the second.

Spencer Gourlay had two goals and an assist for the Rocks who had 15 players suited up for the game.

Scoring once apiece for Delhi were Josh Labelle, Colin Delaet, Danny Attridge, Luke Sinclair and Brady Vanymeren. Christopher Martin and Chris Donnelly each had two assists while Delaet, Attridge, Sinclair, Kelsey Vanymeren and Sean Golebienski each had one.

The Flames outshot the Rocks 76-29 including a 20-4 advantage in the third period. Delhi was scoreless on three power plays while Elora went 1-for-4 on its power play.

Colin Dunne had 71 saves for the Rocks while Kodie Oudevshaar had 25 for Delhi.

The result leaves the Rocks at 1-2-0-0 and Delhi at 2-0-0-0.

The Rocks are to host the Alvinston Killer Bees (1-1-0-0) Friday at 8:30 p.m. at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex in Fergus and play the Woodstock Lakers (0-4-0-0) at Woodstock’s Southwood Arena Saturday at 7:45 p.m.
