Quick start helps Elora Rocks overpower Orangeville Blitz

FERGUS – The Elora Rocks struck for five goals in each of the first two periods as they dropped the Orangeville Blitz 12-3 in WOSHL play Friday night at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.

The Rocks led 5-1 at the end of the first period and 10-2 after the second.

Luke Hoelscher connected for a hat trick for the Rocks while Keaton McLaughlin scored twice. Single goals were added by Steven Dol, Spencer Gourlay, Spencer MacCormack, Chad Herron, Mike Giacometti, Jeff White and Phil Teri added single goals. Joey Heath had three assists while Brendan Woods, Herron, Zack Cameron and White each had two. Single assists were awarded to Gourlay, Hoelscher, Owen Robertson, McLaughlin, Yianni Skropolis and Alex Uttley.

Joshua Miller scored twice for Orangeville while Blake Lovell had the other goal. Jesse Chidwick gathered two assists while David Volpe and Dan Calitri each had one assist.

The Rocks outshot the Blitz 51-28 and went 3-for-5 on their power play while Orangeville went 1-for-3.

Craig Byford had 25 saves for Elora while Ian Hogg had 39 for Orangeville.

The Rocks (1-1-0-0) are to play the Delhi Flames (1-0-0-0) Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Delhi Arena.
