Regals, Mohawks learn identity of Western semifinal opponents

GUELPH – While dates for their next playoff series have not been announced, both the Guelph Regals and Elora Mohawks know who they’ll face in the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League’s Western Conference semifinals and it won’t be each other.

The Regals, fourth place in the conference at the end of the regular season, will play the first-place Six Nations Rebels while the second-place Mohawks will play the third-place St. Catharines Athletics.

Friday night, Six Nations dropped the eighth-place Owen Sound North Stars 15-4 to sweep that best-of-five series in three games while St. Catharines downed the sixth-place Hamilton Bengals 15-7 in the fifth and deciding game of that series.

The Regals had swept the fifth-place Windsor Clippers in three games while the Mohawks had disposed of the seventh-place Cambridge Highlanders in three games.

Guelph dropped both regular-season games with Six Nations as the Rebels took the season opener 20-8 at the Victoria Road arena April 22 and the Rebels downed the Regals 10-7 at Six Nations June 9.

The Mohawks split their regular-season games with St. Catharines, winning 11-8 at home June 15 and losing 10-9 at St. Catharines May 26.

Elora will have home-court advantage in the series with St. Catharines while Six Nations will in the series with the Regals.
