Road warriors victorious in boys’ hockey quarter-finals
GUELPH – It didn’t pay to be the home team in the first three games of the District 4/10 high school boys’ quarter-finals Wednesday and Thursday.
All three games were taken by the visiting team.
The Bishop Macdonell Celtics downed the St. James Lions 5-2 at the Victoria Road arena Wednesday.
Centre Wellington Falcons dropped the Norwell Varsity Reds 4-1 at the Palmerston and District Community Centre Thursday, the same day the defending champion Orangeville Bears were handed a 3-1 setback by the Centennial Spartans.
Ross Royals finished the regular season in first place at 11-1-0-0 (W-L-T-OTL) and were followed by St. James (10-2-0-0) in second, Norwell (8-2-0-2) in third, Orangeville (8-3-0-1) in fourth, Centennial (6-5-0-1) in fifth, Centre Wellington (5-6-0-1) in sixth, Bishop Macdonell (2-9-0-1) in seventh, Centre Dufferin Royals (2-9-1-0) in eighth and Erin Raiders (1-10-0-1) in ninth.
Centre Dufferin ousted Erin with a 4-1 win in the play-in game in Shelburne Monday, the lone home victor.
It’s to be an all-Royals quarter-final in the other quarter-final as Ross and Centre Dufferin are to clash at the West End arena Wednesday at 1:15 p.m. in a game postponed Friday.
Semifinal matches are to be played either Thursday or Friday.
