Ross juniors silver medalists in CWOSSA volleyball

WATERLOO – District 10 champion Ross Royals reached the semifinals of the CWOSSA AAA high school senior boys’ volleyball championship tournament at Waterloo’s RIM Park Thursday before being knocked out with a 2-0 (25-23, 25-21) loss to Bluevale Knights of Waterloo.

The Royals had finished second in their pool with a win and a loss as they defeated St. John’s Green Eagles of Brantford 2-0 (25-15, 25-22) and lost 2-1 (25-20, 20-25, 16-14) to the Huron Heights Highlanders of Waterloo.

Huron Heights won the final 3-1 (25-19, 29-27, 23-25, 25-22) over Bluevale.

Ross finished as silver medalists in the junior tournament as they were nipped 3-2 (25-19, 25-10, 13-25, 23-25, 16-14) by the host Renegades in the final at Kitchener’s Grand River CI. Pool play and the semifinals in the tournament were held at RIM Park in Waterloo.

The Royals had taken their semifinal 2-0 (25-17, 25-23) over the Jacob Hespeler Hawks of Cambridge after winning both of their matches in pool play when they swept the Assumption Lions of Brantford 2-0 (25-15, 25-16) and slipped by Grand River 2-1 (26-24, 20-25, 15-12).

 

CWOSSA AA Boys Volleyball

D10’s Lourdes Crusaders and D4’s Centre Dufferin Royals of Shelburne were both knocked out of the senior tournament at Hanover’s John Diefenbaker Senior School at Hanover Thursday.

The Crusaders won one match and lost two as they defeated the Paris Panthers 2-1 (25-27, 25-15, 15-5), but fell 2-1 (25-23, 23-25, 15-10) to the North Park Trojans of Brantford and 2-1 (17-25, 25-22, 15-7) to the Sacred Heart Crusaders of Walkerton

The Royals also had a win and two losses in the other pool. They defeated St. David Celtics of Waterloo 2-0 (25-17, 25-22), but lost 2-0 (25-21, 25-21) to the Galt Ghosts of Cambridge and 2-0 (25-15, 27-25) to the St. Mary’s Mustangs of Owen Sound.

Both Lourdes and Centre Dufferin finished third in their pools. Top two advanced to the semifinals.

North Park swept Sacred Heart 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 26-24) in the final.

Lourdes reached the semifinals in Friday’s junior tournament at John Diefenbaker Senior School in Hanover before being ousted as they were edged 2-1 (25-22, 23-25, 15-7) by St. Mary’s of Owen Sound.

The Crusaders had two wins and a loss in pool play as they defeated North Park 2-0 (25-22, 28-26) and Paris 2-0 (25-23, 25-19). Lourdes was defeated 2-0 (26-24, 25-14) by Saugeen Royals of Port Elgin.

D4’s Norwell Varsity Reds of Palmerston didn’t advance out of pool play where they had a win and two losses. The Varsity Reds defeated St. Mary’s 2-1 (23-25, 25-21, 15-13), but fell 2-0 (25-11, 25-16) to Southwood Sabres of Cambridge and 2-0 (25-13, 25-15) to St. David.

 

CWOSSA A Boys Volleyball

D4’s Wellington Heights Wolverines of Mount Forest were ousted from the senior tournament at Cambridge’s École Secondaire Père René-de-Galinée at the end of pool play after suffering a pair of defeats.

The Wolverines were defeated 2-1 (23-25, 25-16, 15-10) by Walkerton Riverhawks and 2-0 (28-26, 25-17) by Hagersville Hurricanes.

Père-René de Galinée Knights won the championship match 3-0 (25-9, 25-10, 25-18) over Hagersville.

Emmanuel Christian Eagles of Fergus reached the semifinals of the junior tournament at Père-René de Galinée before being swept 2-0 (25-13, 25-22) by the hosts.

The Eagles had finished second in their pool as they defeated Waterford Wolves 2-0 (25-19, 25-22) and lost 2-1 (25-23, 23-25, 15-7) to Woodland Christian Cavaliers.

Père-René de Galinée won the final 2-1 (25-13, 23-25, 15-10) over the Kincardine Knights.
