Ross Royals, Centennial Spartans tied atop field hockey league

GUELPH – The Ross Royals and Centennial Spartans continued to keep pace with one another as both posted wins in District 4/10 high school girls’ field hockey play Wednesday at Ross.

Ross had a pair of 2-0 wins as they defeated the Orangeville Bears and the Centre Wellington Falcons.

Centennial defeated the same two teams, winning 1-0 over Centre Wellington and 3-1 over Orangeville.

All eight teams in the league were in action Wednesday as the other four gathered at Centre Dufferin high school in Shelburne.

Ross and Centennial lead the standings at 4-0-0 while Centre Dufferin Royals are third at 1-1-3, Wellington Heights Wolverines fourth at 0-1-4, Centre Wellington fifth at 1-2-1 and the Bishop Macdonell Celtics (1-3-0), Guelph CVI Green Gaels (0-2-2) and Orangeville (also at 0-2-2) are tied with two points apiece.

Teams are to wrap up the regular season next week with three games Monday – including Ross against Centennial at the Gryphon Soccer Complex – and eight games at the soccer complex Wednesday.

Clara Stanley scored the game’s lone goal.

Kya Jacobs fired in two goals for Bishop Mac while Isabelle Peverley scored once. Quinn Crampton picked up the shutout.

Naomi Mesenbrink scored for GCVI.

Courtney Forbes had the goal for Centre Dufferin.

 

Centennial 3 Orangeville 1

Scoring a goal apiece for Centennial were Abigail Milne, Sarah Devereux and Sydney Huether.

Orangeville’s goal was scored by Nikola Adams.

 

Ross 2 Centre Wellington 0

Annabelle Docksteader and Cecilia Lee each scored a goal for Ross while the shutout was shared by Ella Parisotto and Jade Ayles.
