Ross Royals secure top spot in senior boys’ volleyball

GUELPH – The Ross Royals clinched a first-place finish in the District 10 high school senior boys’ volleyball league Tuesday when they swept the Guelph CVI Green Gaels at Ross.

The 3-0 win assured the Royals of finishing in the top spot even though they can finish in a tie with the Centennial Spartans. Ross would win a tiebreaker with Centennial thanks to winning both of their regular-season meetings.

Heading into Thursday’s final round of the regular season, Ross leads at 12-1 while Centennial is assured of second as the Spartans are at 11-2. Lourdes Crusaders will finish third as they’re at 9-4. Fourth is a toss-up between the St. James Lions (6-7), GCVI (6-7) and Centre Wellington Falcons (5-8). Bishop Macdonell Celtics (3-10) will finish seventh and play a quarter-final at Centennial next week while the Orangeville Bears (0-13) are assured of eighth and a quarter-final at Ross next week.

Quarter-finals are set for Monday with winners advancing to next Wednesday’s semifinals. Championship match is to be played at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre Nov. 13 at 8 p.m., right after the 6 p.m. junior final.
