Ross Royals win to grab second in baseball loop

GUELPH – Ross Royals secured a second-place finish in the District 10 high school baseball league’s standings by doubling the Lourdes Crusaders Tuesday on the Joe Kaine Diamond.

The Royals won 6-3 in Tuesday’s lone game, the final game of the regular season.

Centennial Spartans finished first at 4-1-0 while Ross and the St. James Lions both finished at 3-1-1

The first tie-breaker is the result between the two teams, but they tied 1-1 last week. The second tie-breaker is the runs-for-and-against-differential and the Royals posted a run differential of +16 while St. James is at +8.

Bishop Macdonell Celtics finished fourth at 3-2-0 while Lourdes is fifth at 1-4-0 and Guelph CVI Green Gaels sixth at 0-5-0.

The playoffs are to start with the quarter-finals Thursday as GCVI is to play St. James at 1 p.m. while Bishop Mac and Lourdes are to battle in the 3:30 p.m. game.

All playoff games are scheduled to be played on the Joe Kaine Diamond.

Thursday’s quarter-final winners advance to Tuesday’s semifinals. Centennial is to play the lowest-ranked quarter-final winner at 1 p.m. while Ross is to play the other quarter-final winner at 3:30 p.m.

Semifinal victors are to move on to the league’s championship game which is slated for next Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at the Joe Kaine Diamond.
