Royals slip by Burlington in OSL Provincial West play

GUELPH – The Guelph Royals claimed a 1-0 victory over Burlington SC in Ontario Soccer League Provincial West play at the Centennial Bowl Thursday night.

James Templeman struck for the lone goal of the game while Daniel Keir picked up the shutout.

Keir also had a clean sheet in the Royals’ previous outing, a 2-0 win over Mississauga Croatia in Mississauga last Friday.

Niklas Baurr scored both goals.

Thursday’s win allowed the Royals to stretch their lead atop the seven-team league standings. The Royals are at 9-3-2 with four games to play, three at home, while Burlington is second at 6-4-4. Distinctionz SC and AC Diavoli are tied for third at 5-7-2 while the Ebony Juniors are fifth at 5-9-1, Mississauga Croatia is sixth at 3-11-1 and Caledon United is seventh at 2-10-3.

The Royals are to play Distinctionz at Mississauga’s Dr. Martin Dobkin Park Sept. 23 at 8 p.m.
