Royals top Bears in Orangeville’s return to D10 girls’ hockey

GUELPH – The Ross Royals opened the District 10 high school girls’ hockey season with a 6-2 victory over the Orangeville Bears Monday at the Victoria Road arena.

The game was the first one in the league this season and was the first game in the league for the Bears since the 2016-17 season when they finished seventh in the seven-team league with an 0-10-0-0 record.

Monday, Josie Meredith hit for a hat trick and also had an assist for the Royals while Adiah VanEngan had two goals and an assist. Annabelle Docksteader scored the other goal while Kaitlyn Broeckel and Sophia Payne each had an assist.

Mackenzie Mills scored both goals for Orangeville and Emma Stamper picked up an assist.
