Same thing, another day, as Outlaws drop Game 2 of series

ERIN – The Ripley Wolves scored four goals in the third period to hand the Erin Outlaws a 5-3 setback in Ontario Elite Hockey League playoff action Saturday at the Centre 2000 arena.

It was the second time in as many days that Ripley turned in a four-goal third period as they’d done the same Friday in winning the best-of-seven quarter-final series opener 7-3 at Ripley.

The Wolves scored the lone goal of the first period Saturday while the Outlaws responded with the lone goal of the second.

All six goals in the third period – four by Ripley and two by Erin – were scored in the final 10:15 of the match including three goals in a span of 61 seconds midway through the period.

Erin never led as Ripley scored twice before the Outlaws hit for their first goal of the period. The Wolves added two more goals before Erin completed the scoring with a power-play goal with six seconds to go.

Travis Brown had two goals for the Outlaws while Jacob Miller had the other one. Chris Lachance had two assists while Jesse Chidwick and Lucas Schott each had one.

Scoring once each for Ripley were Ethan Skinner, Dan Nicoloff, Garrett Meurs, Mike Howes and Cody Britton. Todd Hellyer had two assists and Evan Visser, Tyson Soers, Britton and Brett Catto each had one.

The Outlaws outshot the Wolves 35-32 and scored a pair of power-play goals while Ripley had one.

Third game in the series is to go Saturday at Ripley beginning at 7:30 p.m.
