Second-half goals lift Gaels to senior soccer victory

GUELPH – The Guelph CVI Green Gaels struck for a pair of goals in the second half as they slipped by the Orangeville Bears 2-0 in Wednesday’s lone District 10 high school senior boys’ soccer game.

Omar Ladhani and Malcolm Mavangi connected for the goals.

The Gaels climb into second in the league standings with the win. They’re at 3-1-2 and trail the Bishop Macdonell Celtics who are at 5-0-0.

GCVI is followed by the Centennial Spartans (3-1-1), Ross Royals (2-2-1), Orangeville (2-3-1), St. James Lions (1-2-2), Centre Wellington Falcons (1-3-1) and Lourdes Crusaders (0-5-0).

The league is to wrap up its regular season with three games Thursday and four games next Tuesday. Playoffs are to start with the quarter-finals next Thursday.

 

Junior Boys’ Soccer

GCVI remained unbeaten and atop the standings as they dropped Orangeville 12-1.

Kai M. led the Gaels with a four-goal outing while Alex C., Anwar M. and Bardia S. each scored twice. Single goals were netted by Saleem K. and Omar S.

Lucas D. scored for Orangeville.

The Gaels have won all four of their league outings while Centennial’s at 2-0-2. Ross follows at 2-1-1 while Bishop Mac’s at 1-1-1, St. James is at 1-3-0 and Orangeville’s at 0-5-0.
