Second-period goals power Fergus Thistles by Northmen

The Fergus Thistles erupted for 11 goals in the second period as they doubled the Orangeville Northmen 14-7 in Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League play Saturday at the Jefferson Elora Community Centre.

The game was the second of a junior lacrosse doubleheader at the Elora arena as the hometown Elora Mohawks had dropped the Wallaceburg Red Devils 20-7 in a junior B match to open the twinbill.

The second-period onslaught by the Thistles allowed them to rally from a 3-2 deficit after the first period to a 13-3 lead after the second.

Aiden McDougall, Jared Bettonvil and Jordan Mueller each scored hat tricks for Fergus while Cooper Fleet tallied twice. Single goals were netted by Kody Brown, Logan Joyes and Tye Sanderson. Bettonvil had five assists while McDougall had four, Brown and Brodie Rice had two apiece and Caden Levine, Hudson Karn, Fleet, Sanderson and Jack Webley had one apiece.

Logan Marshall, Josh Presley and Holton Marshall collected two goals apiece for Orangeville while Jack Fitzpatrick scored the other goal. Logan Brake and Presley each had two assists while single assists were awarded to each of the Marshalls, Luke Downard, Lyle MacNeil and Fitzpatrick.

The Thistles won despite being outshot 43-30.

Eric Krauter had 36 saves for the Thistles while Adam Krueger had four in the first 26 minutes of the game for Orangeville and Aiden Clark had 12 the rest of the way.

Fergus had five power-play goals and a shorthanded marker while Orangeville struck for four power-play tallies.
