Second-period scoring lifts Fergus Thistles to victory

The Fergus Thistles connected for four goals in the second period as they upended the Six Nations Stealth 6-4 in Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League play Thursday at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.

The teams were tied 1-1 at the end of the first period before the Thistles jumped ahead for good, leading 5-3 at the end of the second.

In the second, the Thistles scored two goals in the first 10 minutes of the period before Six Nations added a shorthanded goal. Fergus responded with a pair of power-play goals before Six Nations netted the final goal of the period.

The Thistles received single goals from Aiden McDougall, Logan Joyes, Spencer Aitchison, Jared Bettonvil, Cooper Fleet and Jordan Mueller. Aitchison, Owen Hahn and Brodie Rice each had an assist.

Tylan Hill had two goals and two assists for Six Nations while Dayton Jamieson and Brian Laforme also scored. Brad Green had two assists while single assists were awarded to Sylas Doolittle and Laforme.

The Thistles outshot the Stealth 49-26 and scored three power-play goals while Six Nations had a shorthanded goal. Fergus was assessed 22 minutes in penalties including a 10-minute misconduct while Six Nations took 106 minutes including seven 10-minute misconducts.

Eric Krauter had 22 saves for the Thistles and Kayden Hearn had 36 for Six Nations until being replaced by Emmett Styres for the final 9:10 of the game. Styres stopped all seven shots he faced.

The win was the first of the season for Fergus.
