Shamrocks continue slide with loss to Tavistock

CAMBRIDGE – The Hespeler Shamrocks suffered their 10th consecutive loss in Provincial Junior Hockey League play when they were edged 4-3 by the Tavistock Braves Sunday at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.

The Shamrocks haven’t won since posting a 5-3 victory over the Paris Mounties at Paris Dec. 2.

Sunday, Tavistock netted the winner with 7:17 to go in the third period.

Hespeler led 2-1 at the end of the first period thanks to a pair of goals 1:23 apart, but the Braves went ahead 3-2 by the end of the second with the second goal of the period coming with 44 seconds to go in the frame. Hespeler tied it at 5:54 of the third to set the stage for Tavistock’s winning goal.

Andrew Harris, Jett Spark and Liam Nelson had a goal apiece for Hespeler while single assists went to Mathew Styka, Brandon Lamb, Ryan Fraser and Michael Boyle-Ricupero.

Tavistock received single goals from Carter Arseneau, Nicholas Hambly, Ethan Sharpe and Jacob Reid-Brant. Ian Glendinning, Christian Bergmann, Reid-Brant, Sharpe, Carson Bernhardt, Nicolas Thibodeau, Cullen Derry and Hambly each had an assist.

The teams each took 28 shots while Tavistock went 1-for-4 on its power play and the Shamrocks were scoreless on three power plays.

Lucas Hillert had 24 saves for Hespeler while James Hopper had 25 for Tavistock.
