Shamrocks give up three in third in loss to Tavistock

TAVISTOCK – The Hespeler Shamrocks continue to look for their first win since Dec. 2 after they yielded three goals in the third period for a 5-2 loss to the Tavistock Braves in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Friday Tavistock and District Recreation Centre.

Hespeler has lost 11 consecutive games, one of them in overtime.

Friday, the teams were tied 1-1 at the end of the first period and 2-2 after the second. Tavistock shot ahead for good in the opening minute of the third.

Riley Panagapka had a goal and an assist for the Shamrocks while Kaiden Gignac also scored and Gavin Logher had an assist.

Ian Glendinning scored the two third-period goals that came after Tavistock grabbed the lead for the final time. Kaden Brame, Will Schlotzhauer and Nicolas Thibodeau had scored a goal apiece earlier in the game while single assists were given to Jacob Reid-Brant, Thibodeau, Carson Bernhardt, Carter Arseneau and Nicholas Hambly.

Tavistock outshot Hespeler 47-33 while neither team scored on their power plays, the Shamrocks on eight power plays and the Braves on nine. However, each team did net a shorthanded marker.

David Hanley had 42 saves for Hespeler while James Hopper had 31 for Tavistock including stopping a penalty shot in the second period.

The Shamrocks (8-21-1-0) and Paris Titans (7-20-2-1) are tied for sixth in the seven-team Doherty Division with 17 points apiece. Woodstock Navy Vets lead at 24-4-2-0 while the New Hamburg Firebirds are second at 23-7-2-0, Tavistock is third at 17-11-0-2, Norwich Merchants are fourth at 13-12-5-1 and Wellesley Applejacks are fifth at 11-15-1-0.

The Shamrocks are to host Paris Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
