Shamrocks net four in second in win over Wellesley

CAMBRIDGE – The Hespeler Shamrocks struck for four goals in the second period as they avenged a loss to the Wellesley Applejacks two days earlier when they posted a 6-4 win Sunday in Provincial Junior Hockey League play at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.

Wellesley lad 2-1 at the end of the first period before Hespeler jumped ahead 5-4 by the end of the second.

Scoring a goal apiece for Hespeler were Andrew Harris, Liam Nelson, Riley Panagapka, Braeden Tyler, Jett Spark and Jack Restauri. Boden White assisted on three of the goals while Justin George had two assists while single assists were recorded by Restauri, Gavin Logher, Will Reel, Ryan Fraser and Harris.

Carson Wickie, Stuart Sinclair, Jake L’Heureux and Roenick Jakielaszek scored the goals for Wellesley while Connor Doerbecker had two assists and Logan Crans and Jakielaszek each had one.

The Applejacks outshot the Shamrocks 28-24 and went 1-for-3 on their power play while the hosts went 1-for-5.

Lucas Hillert had 24 saves in the Hespeler net while Travis Jansen and Tyson Gustaw split time in the Wellesley net. Starter Jansen had 10 saves in 34:18 while Gustaw had eight saves the rest of the way.

Woodstock Navy Vets lead the Doherty Division at 15-1-1-0 while the New Hamburg Firebirds are second at 12-4-1-0, Tavistock Braves are third at 8-6-0-1, the Shamrocks are fourth at 7-8-0-0, Norwich Merchants are fifth at 5-9-1-1, the Applejacks are sixth at 5-10-0-0 and Paris Titans are seventh at 3-13-1-0.

The Shamrocks are to host New Hamburg Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
