Shamrocks overpowered by New Hamburg Firebirds

BADEN – The Hespeler Shamrocks surrendered five goals in the second period as they were dropped 8-3 by the New Hamburg Firebirds in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Saturday at the Wilmot Recreation Complex.

After a scoreless first period, New Hamburg shot ahead 5-3 by the end of the second with four of their goals coming on their power play. The Firebirds added three unanswered goals in the third with a power-play goal and a shorthanded marker being two of the goals.

Andrew Harris, Boden White and Mathew Styka had a goal apiece for Hespeler while single assists were awarded to Michael Boyle-Ricupero, Kwang Sheng-Luu, Jack Restauri, James Ramani, White and Braeden Tyler.

Justin McManus and Tyler Reid scored twice each for New Hamburg while Brendan George, Matt Domm, Jake Thompson and Owen Bruder added single goals. Domm and Riley Benko each had two assists while Anthony Pede, Reid, Owen Fischer, Thompson, Bruder, George, Andrew Gear and Kaden Eichler each had one.

The Firebirds outshot the Shamrocks 38-33 and went 5-for-8 on their power play. Hespeler went 1-for-5.

Graeme Noye had 30 saves for New Hamburg while David Hanley had 30 for Hespeler.

The result leaves Hespeler sixth in the Doherty Division at 8-19-1-0 and New Hamburg second at 21-7-2-0.
