Spartans and Bears remain unbeaten in senior hoops

GUELPH – The Centennial Spartans and Orangeville Bears kept pace with one another atop the District 10 high school senior girls’ basketball league as both scored wins Tuesday.

It’s early in the season, but the Spartans and Bears are the lone undefeated teams in the league and each scored their third win Tuesday.

Centennial handed the Ross Royals their first loss, 59-49, while Orangeville downed the St. James Lions 69-22.

The Spartans and Bears are to meet for the first time this season Oct. 10 at Orangeville.

Centennial and Orangeville are tied atop the league at 3-0 while Ross and Guelph CVI Green Gaels are tied at 2-1, Lourdes Crusaders and Bishop Macdonell Celtics are tied at 1-2 and St. James and Centre Wellington Falcons are tied at 0-3.

 

Centennial 59 Ross 49

Hayley McMillan led Centennial with 23 points while Natassa Sajic added 15.

Sikar Tesfit and Samanth Testfit collected 11 apiece for Ross.

 

Orangeville 69 St. James 22

Ayla Corrigale netted 24 points for Orangeville.

Arielle Balmelero had 11 for St. James.

 

Bishop Macdonell 60 Centre Wellington 37

Sydney Richardson struck for a game-high 22 points for Bishop Mac while Talya Kridli followed with 12.

Natalie Abra collected 14 for Centre Wellington while L. Thys picked up 11.

 

Guelph CVI 46 Lourdes 33

Junior Girls’ Basketball

Bishop Macdonell Celtics and Guelph CVI Green Gaels are tied atop the junior loop at 3-0 while Ross Royals and St. James Lions are tied at 2-1, Lourdes Crusaders and Centre Wellington Falcons are tied at 1-2 and Centennial Spartans and Orangeville Bears are tied at 0-3.

 

St. James 38 Orangeville 15

McLellan had 11 points to lead St. James while Cummings had nine and Porcellato gathered eight.

Larocque had six for Orangeville.

 

Guelph CVI 47 Lourdes 25

G. Judge led GCVI with 15 points while J. Genidy contributed 12 and E. McCabe chipped in with 11.

J. Omot had a game-high 19 for Lourdes.

 

Ross 57 Centennial 26

S. Monk struck for 17 points for Ross while C. Smiley netted 15.

Libby Anderson had 11 for Centennial and Dana Hasson collected seven.

 

Bishop Macdonell 41 Centre Wellington 32

Maeve Bedard and Sophia Anstett each gathered 11 points for Bishop Mac while Cassidy Myslik added seven.

Maggie Long and Sydney Sellers each had 13 for Centre Wellington while Ella Ladner had four.
