Spartans, Gaels to meet in CWOSSA junior soccer semifinals

GUELPH – The Centennial Spartans and Guelph CVI Green Gaels met last week to decide the District 10 high school junior boys’ soccer title.

They’ll meet again Friday morning with a berth in the CWOSSA junior boys’ soccer tournament’s final on the line.

The two Guelph schools in the six-team tournament advanced to the playoff round by finishing in the top two of their respective pools.

D10 runner-up Centennial finished first in Pool A after posting wins over the Wellington Heights Wolverines of Mount Forest (6-1) and Kitchener-Waterloo CVS (KCI) Raiders of Kitchener (2-1). KCI downed Wellington Heights 3-1 in the other game in the pool.

In Pool B, D10 champion GCVI came back from a 3-1 loss to the St. Mary’s Eagles of Kitchener with a 3-0 victory over the Waterloo CI Vikings. St. Mary’s dropped WCI 4-0.

Friday’s other semifinal, both are slated for 9:30 a.m., features KCI against St. Mary’s.

Semifinal winners are to meet in the final at 12 p.m.

 

Kitchener-Waterloo CVS 3 Wellington Heights 1

Mohamed Mohamed had a pair of goals for KCI while Calvin Cairns had the other goal.

Alex Neal scored for Wellington Heights.

 

St. Mary’s 4 Waterloo CI 0

Getting a ghoal apiece for St. Mary’s were Dawson Piccinin Witzell, Dionis Jakupi, Noah Lankowski and Tyson Duberry.

 

Centennial 6 Wellington Heights 1

Ibrahim Alasaad scored twice for Centennial while Luka Gogic, Marcus Kycia, Aboodi Alasaad and Mason Taggart added single goals.

Noah Schlosser had the goal for Wellington Heights.

 

St. Mary’s 3 Guelph CVI 1

St. Mary’s got two goals from Dionis Jakupi and one from Noah Lankowski.

Kai McCoubrey scored for GCVI.

 

Centennial 2 Kitchener-Waterloo CVS 1

Centennial’s goals were scored by Ibrahim Alasaad and Jayden Laing.

Ryan Doiron scored for KCI.

 

Guelph CVI 3 Waterloo CI 0

Omar Smith tallied twice for GCVI and Jake Masotta also scored.
