Lourdes Crusaders collect first win in D10 baseball

GUELPH – The Lourdes Crusaders struck for their first victory of the District 10 high school baseball season Tuesday as they downed the Guelph CVI Green Gaels 7-3 at Pearson Park.

Ethan Trow homered for the Crusaders.

Bishop Macdonell Celtics, Centennial Spartans, Ross Royals and St. James Lions are all tied for first at 2-1 while the Crusaders are at 1-2 and the Gaels are at 0-3.

Gryphon men hoopsters edged by Humber College Hawks

ETOBICOKE – The Guelph Gryphons suffered an 84-83 loss to the Humber College Hawks in preseason men’s basketball play Tuesday at Humber’s North Campus Gymnasium.

The loss was the second one in as many preseason matches for the Gryphs as they had been beaten 89-83 by the Bishop’s Gaiters at Brockville CI Saturday.

The Gryphs have a pair of preseason matches at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre this weekend as they’re to host the Concordia Stingers Friday at 7 p.m. and the Memorial Sea-Hawks Saturday at 4 p.m.

Guelph Royals blanked by Distinctionz SC

MISSISSAUGA – The Guelph Royals suffered a 2-0 loss to Distinctionz SC in Ontario Soccer League Provincial West play Saturday night at Dr. Martin Dobkin Park.

Kimmoi Grange and Chivali Edwards scored for Distinctionz while Jacob Gosciniak had the shutout.

The Royals lead the Provincial West league at 10-4-2 while Distinctionz is second at 8-7-2.

The Royals are to host Caledon United FC (2-12-3) Thursday at Centennial Bowl. Game time is 9 p.m.
