Storm beat Peterborough to snap out of winless streak

PETERBOROUGH – The Guelph Storm put an end to their seven-game winless streak Thursday when they skated to a 4-1 victory in Ontario Hockey League play at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.

A pair of first-period goals sent the Storm on their way to the win.

Guelph led 2-0 at the end of the first period while the Petes had the lone goal of the second.

Max Namestnikov, Charlie Paquette, Wil McFadden and Braeden Bowman had a goal apiece for the Storm while Bowman and Parker Snelgrove each had two assists. Jake Karabela, Ryan McGuire, Quinn Beauchesne and Jett Luchanko each had one assist.

Martin Matejicek scored for Peterborough while Carson Cameron and Chase Lefebvre assisted on the goal.

The Storm outshot the Petes 48-30 thanks to a 22-5 advantage in the first period. Both teams had a power-play goal, Guelph on five power plays and Peterborough on three.

Brayden Gillespie had 29 saves for the Storm while Zach Bowen had 44 for Peterborough.

The Storm have two home games at the Sleeman Centre on their schedule on the holiday weekend as they’re to host the Erie Otters Friday at 7:30 p.m. and the Sudbury Wolves Monday at 2 p.m.
