Storm complete preseason with win over Brantford

GUELPH – A day after dropping an OHL preseason game to the Brantford Bulldogs 5-2 at Ohsweken, the Guelph Storm returned the favour with a 5-2 win on their home ice at the Sleeman Centre Saturday night.

The Storm struck for four consecutive power-play goals to rally for the win after spotting the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead in the first seven minutes of the game.

The teams were tied 2-2 at the end of the first period and the Storm led 4-2 after the second.

Braeden Bowman had a pair of goals for the Storm to give him four for the preseason. Hunter McKenzie, Max Namestnikov and Jett Luchanko added single goals while Luchanko also had three assists. Rylan Singh collected two assists while Namestnikov, Chandler Romeo, Grant Spada and Bowman each had one.

Braeden O’Keefe scored both goals for Brantford, the first one coming with the Bulldogs playing shorthanded. Ben Bujold and Dylan Tsherna each had one assist.

The Storm outshot the Bulldogs 32-24 and went 4-for-7 on their power play. They also kept Brantford scoreless on two power plays and they won 35 of the game’s 51 faceoffs.

Brayden Gillespie had 22 saves in the Storm net while David Egorov had 27 saves for Brantford.

The game was the final preseason match for both teams. The Storm finished with a 4-1-0-1 record while Brantford finished at 4-2-0-0.

The Storm are to open their regular season Friday with a home game against the Owen Sound Attack, 1-2-0-1 in the preseason. Game time at the Sleeman Centre is 7:30 p.m.
