Storm doubles Owen Sound to start OHL campaign

GUELPH – The Guelph Storm scored a pair of goals in the first period and they held up as the difference in the game as the Storm opened their OHL season with a 4-2 victory over the Owen Sound Attack Friday night at the Sleeman Centre.

The Storm led 2-0 after the first period before the teams scored a goal apiece in each of the final two periods.

Leo Serlin, the Storm’s fifth-round pick in the 2022 OHL draft, scored a pair of goals in his first OHL regular-season game. He had scored three times in six preseason games.

Adding a goal apiece were veterans Michael Buchinger and Braeden Bowman. Jett Luchanko had the lone assist awarded to a Storm player in the game.

Demi Goure scored both goals for Owen Sound while assists went to Martin Matejicek, Declan Waddick and Servac Petrovsky.

The Attack outshot the Storm 36-27 and there were no power-play goals in the game although Owen Sound had six power plays and the Storm had four.

Brayden Gillespie had 34 saves in the Storm net while Corbin Votary had 23 for the Attack.

The Storm are to play the Windsor Spitfires at Windsor’s WFCU Centre Saturday at 7:05 p.m. The Spitfires were dropped 8-2 by the Sarnia Sting in Sarnia Friday night.
