Third loss in week as Storm topped by Kitchener

GUELPH – The Guelph Storm were handed their third loss in a week as they were downed 5-1 by the Kitchener Rangers in Ontario Hockey League play Wednesday at the Sleeman Centre.

For the second consecutive game the Storm were held to 19 shots and never reached double digits in shots in any of the three periods.

Kitchener led 3-0 at the end of the first period and all of the scoring in the game was complete by the end of the second.

Jett Luchanko scored a power-play goal for the Storm 50 seconds into the second period. Braeden Bowman and Jake Karabela, who had scored power-play goals in a loss in Saginaw Saturday, assisted on Luchanko’s goal.

Trent Swick had a pair of goals for Kitchener while single goals were netted by Tanner Lam, Simon Motew and Luca Romano. Matthew Sop assisted on two of the goals while Hunter Brzustewicz, Matthew Andonovski, Motew, Adrian Misaljevic, Carson Rehkopf, Filip Mešár and Max Dirracolo each had one assist.

The Rangers outshot the Storm 28-19 and went 1-for-4 on their power play while the locals went 1-for-5.

Brayden Gillespie started in net for the Storm, but was replaced by Damian Slavik at 11:35 of the first period after Kitchener’s third goal. Gillespie had four saves and Slavik had 19. Jackson Parsons had 18 saves for the Rangers.
