Thistles nipped by Barrie, Game 4 Saturday at Fergus

BARRIE – The Fergus Thistles will get another chance to wrap up their Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League Western Conference quarter-final playoff series with the Barrie Bombers Saturday night at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.

The Bombers stayed alive in the best-of-five series by posting an 8-6 victory at Barrie’s Peggy Hill Team Community Centre Friday night. Fergus leads the series 2-1.

Barrie scored four consecutive goals from 18:38 of the first period to 10:41 of the second to break a 3-3 tie. However, the Thistles closed the gap to the final two-goal margin by outscoring their hosts 3-1 the rest of the way, but only one of those goals came in the third period.

The Bombers led 4-3 at the end of the first period and 8-5 after the second.

Evan McDougall had two goals for the Thistles while Aiden McDougall, Tye Sanderson, Logan Joyes and Spencer Aitchison scored once apiece. Sanderson set up three of the goals while single assists were awarded to Aiden McDougall, Blake Harrison, Nate Long, Joyes, Cooper Fleet, Eddie McDonald and Evan McDougall.

Barrie was led by Barrie, Carter Barrie, who had four goals and two assists while Tye Burke had two goals and two assists and Myles Shorey and Carter Beecroft also scored. Graham Nash had three assists while Jackson Andrews and Andrew Dafoe each had two assists and Bo Bitzer, Shorey and Luke Wensing each had one assist.

Barrie outshot Fergus 58-38 and had three power-play goals while the Thistles had one power-play and two shorthanded goals.

Carter Billings had 50 saves for the Thistles while Kalib Anglin-Ramm had 32 for Barrie.

Game time Saturday in Fergus is 7 p.m.

If Barrie wins that game, the teams will meet in Barrie Sunday for the fifth and deciding game. That match at the Peggy Hill Team Community Centre is to start at 2 p.m.
