Thistles outscored by a goal each period in loss to Six Nations

OHSWEKEN – The Fergus Thistles were outscored by a single goal in each period as they were edged 19-16 by the Six Nations Stealth in Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League play Sunday at the Gaylord Powless Arena.

The Thistles yielded four goals in a span of two minutes and 45 seconds early in the first period and trailed 6-5 at the end of the period and 12-10 at the end of the second.

The Thistles actually fought back to take a 9-7 lead in the second before the Stealth came back for the win, netting three shorthanded goals in the third period and four overall.

Evan McDougall had five goals for Fergus while Logan Joyes scored four times and Aiden McDougall netted a pair of goals. Tye Sanderson, Nate Long, Brodie Rice, Rory Peters and Jarrett Lavigne contributed single goals while Sanderson, Conner Schmidt and Evan McDougall each had three assists. Aiden McDougall and Cooper Fleet each had two assists while Nathan Henderson, Blake Harrison, Joyes, Aiden Cormack and Cameron Pelkie each had one.

Deeland Martin struck for eight goals and two assists for Six Nations while Tylan Hill had two goals and five assists. Dalen Burning and Dayton Martin also scored twice each while Nolan McNeil, John Hill, Cal Anderson, Jack Henhawk and Teegan Henry chipped in with single goals. Jacob Skye assisted on four of the goals while Burning had three assists, Henry, Brian Laforme and Kevin Henhawks had two apiece and Jordan Hill, Anderson, Jack Henhawk and Dayton Martin each had one.

Shots on goal were not reported.

Eric Krauter started in net for Fergus, but was replaced by Owen O’Neill at 10:08 of the first period after the fifth goal by Six Nations.

Sagoyehdehs Hill played the entire game in goal for the Stealth.

The Thistles went 5-for-10 on their power play and they scored a shorthanded goal while Six Nations went 1-for-8 on their power play.

The result keeps the Thistles winless after four games, all losses, while Six Nations improves to 4-2-0.

The Thistles are to play the Wilmot Wild (6-0-0) at the Plattsville Arena Thursday at 8 p.m. and they’re to host the Brantford Warriors (2-3-0) Sunday at 8 p.m. at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.
