Three goals per period power Wild to win over Thistles

FERGUS – The Fergus Thistles were handed a 9-4 setback by the Wilmot Wild in Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League play Tuesday at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.

Wilmot scored three times in each period and led 3-1 after the first and 6-3 after the second.

The Wild broke a 3-3 tie by scoring six of the game’s final seven goals including the final three, all power-play goals.

Tye Sanderson, Liam Peters, Carter Coffey and Jarrett Lavigne scored the goals for Fergus while Evan McDougall had two assists and Aiden McDougall, Rory Peters and Coffey had one each.

Eric Snyder had four goals for the Wild, including the final three power-play tallies. Eric Chilton collected a pair of goals while EJ Keleher, Brendan Gerber and Ethan Fitton also scored. Chase Forsythe set up six goals while Keleher had three assists and Evan Gray had two. Getting one assist apiece were Troy MacDonald, Chilton, Brandon Abbott and Klay O’Keefe.

Wilmot outshot Fergus 36-34 and scored four power-play goals while Fergus didn’t net a goal with a manpower advantage.

Eric Krauter had 27 saves in net for the Thistles while Aiden Kelly had 30 saves for Wilmot.
