Thunder hits for another senior hoops win over Eagles

FERGUS – The Westside Thunder scored their second close victory over the Emmanuel Christian Eagles this District 4 high school senior girls’ basketball season when they claimed a 45-42 win on the Fergus school’s court Monday.

The Thunder had won 31-25 on their own court Sept. 25.

S. Bigler led Westside with 19 points while O. Wesley had 10 and C. McLean added eight.

Tiffany Bouwers collected 16 for Emmanuel Christian while Lexi Taekema netted nine and Henrietta Thalen had eight.

The losses to Westside are the lone losses in league play for the Eagles this season.

While Westside (5-1) and Emmanuel Christian (5-2) are tied atop the league with 10 points apiece, the Thunder have a game in hand. The Centre Dufferin Royals are at 4-2, Erin Raiders are at 3-3, Norwell Varsity Reds are at 1-5 and Wellington Heights Wolverines are at 0-5.

Katiana Vernon and Kendra Swanzey netted 11 points apiece for Erin.

Avery Andrews had 13 for Wellington Heights and Sydney West contributed six.

Junior Girls’ Basketball

Erin won Monday to remain perfect in league play. The Raiders lead the three-team league at 4-0 while the Emmanuel Christian Eagles are at 1-2 and the Wellington Heights Wolverines are at 0-3.

 

Erin 46 Wellington Heights 7

Meghan O’Reilly collected 14 points for Erin while Helayna Bouktsis picked up eight.

M. Zmija had five for Wellington Heights.
